We would also like to express our gratitude to the ambassadors and consuls of Liechtenstein, Norway, and the United States of America, as well as the prominent figures from the cultural and political sphere, for their beautiful words in our 2023 catalogue.
Petr Pavel | President of the Czech Republic
Dear fans and visitors of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival!
Its eighth year is dedicated to new beginnings. Surely each of us has already experienced some beginnings. And regardless of the circumstances, beginnings are always more or less connected with enthusiasm, energy, expectation and joy. This year’s festival, interweaved by rising stars of classical music from all over the world, will be like that: enthusiastic, energetic, joyful, performed by young musical talents under 25. It also raises joyful expectations because, according to tradition, it will offer new concert venues – from Prague through Valtice to the Austrian border. The well-thought-out programme also considers the accompaniment in the form of lectures and educational programmes for schools. I am looking forward to contemporary compositions and well-known and beloved classics. I wish the organisers another successful year and the listeners and visitors many experiences of beautiful and top-quality music in beautiful surroundings!
Martin Baxa | Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic
Dear friends and guests of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival,
we remember with pleasure the last year’s festival inspired by the Moravian Croats and Balkan culture.
Now it is time to open a new chapter together – the 8th edition of the festival.
Let us support young talents from all over the world who are on the threshold of a stellar career. Let us enjoy great musical experiences in unique venues.
Let music connect us, inspire us and enrich our hearts.
Welcome to Moravia!
Jan Grolich | Governor of the South Moravian Region
Dear friends of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival,
It is my pleasure to support this festival and to be its patron for the eighth time.
This year’s edition and its programme dedicates the stage to young talents. The already acclaimed Lednice-Valtice Music Festival will thus contribute significantly to the promotion of young talents in the field of classical music.
The musical landscape of the future will be shaped by these artists who will perform at LVMF concerts. Their work will transcend national and age boundaries and ensure that classical music remains an experience for many.
The Lednice-Valtice Music Festival, as in the past seven years, will offer a high artistic standard through a varied and carefully selected programme to all the visitors.
I wish all the guests and artists much enjoyment from their performances and from the beautiful scenery that the Lednice-Valtice area offers.
H. E. Maria-Pia Kothbauer | Liechtenstein Ambassador to the Czech Republic and Austria
Dear friends of music,
I am honored to support the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival. Especially, I appreciate the focus of this year’s festival on young musicians! I hope that the concerts by American pianist Maxim Landa and violinist Michelle Stern will go down in the history of the festival as exceptional milestones within their growing fame. Young musicians bring new energy and life that transforms even familiar classics into new forms – and I believe that these young talents will enrich the historic environment of the Lednice-Valtice area with a joy and optimism that audiences will surely appreciate in the current geopolitical chaos. This is another example of the beautiful collaboration between the US and the Czech Republic and a celebration of their cultural ties.
H. E. Bijan Sabet | Ambassador of the USA to the Czech Republic
It is my utmost pleasure and honour to be one of the patrons of this year’s Lednice-Valtice Music Festival. Not only because I do have a great appreciation for classical music, but music connects us all across national, cultural and generational differences. The festival programme is impressive for its a la carte selection of young talents from all over the world. One of the musicians is Yngve Abelvik – a young horn player from the Norwegian town of Bergen, where the composer Edvard Grieg was also born. Yngve plays the French horn, an instrument with a wide range that is very challenging to master. Visitors and audiences of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival are sure to enjoy the stunning musical numbers combined with the beautiful Czech landscape and magnificent castles.
I wish you all an unforgettable festival experience!
Victor C. Rønneberg | Ambassador of Norway to the Czech Republic
Culture is one of those phenomena of human society that significantly co-create it and have been an integral part of it since forever. Artists have created and continue to create works that tell the story of their creators across the centuries and allow us to understand at least a little about the time of their creation.
The most spiritual kind of art is music. It can make us cry and dance, create dramatic and relaxed atmospheres. Music festivals are like artistic banquet with a lavish table of delicious refreshments ready to be tasted.
The 8th Lednice-Valtice Music Festival focuses on young talents. Contemporary people who have been kissed by the artistic muses. Muses are timeless and thus still young, just like art itself.
New beginnings are symbolized by one of the venues of this year’s festival – Katzelsdorf Castle. Once a place of Liechtenstein sophistication and refinement, then a victim of communist subversion and destruction, now a symbol of gradual renewal and a new future.
We can only wish that the artistic experiences of this year’s LVMF will be an enrichment for all participants and an encouragement for the young performers to continue their path of artistic life.
Daniel Herman | Honorary Consul of the Principality of Liechtenstein in the Czech Republic
Dear fans of music in the most charming destinations!
An octave. Just as a series of eight notes, the LVmF with its eighth edition is already an inseparable part of the last summer vibes and a symbol of the coming autumn in South Moravia. Personally, this edition is special not only because of the young talent showcase – which is extremely important – motivated by the invitation by Jiří Partyka, but also because the festival is international this year: an American pianist and an American violinist will appear in one of the roles. Obviously, it warms my heart as it brings Moravia and the United States, my two favourite places, more closely together again. The festival has come a long way since its establishment. From the first year, when my father was one of its supporters, through the previous years, when the festival firmly established itself among the Czech festival cornerstone and put itself on the same level as renowned festivals, to this year’s programme, which is building its permanent place in the category of internationally renowned celebrations. The South Moravian region could not wish for a better ambassador of beautiful music than the LVMF. I wish the festival all the best for the years to come and thank you for this wonderful tradition.
Monika Vintrlíková | Honorary consul of the Czech Republic to Atlanta, USA
Dear fans of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival,
I am very pleased that the city of Mikulov is a stable part of this unique cultural meeting, a series of exceptional concerts and thematic lectures across the Lednice-Valtice area with an overlap to the Mikulov region. Historically, Our area has been connected to two important families – the Liechtensteins and the Dietrichsteins. Their castles and gardens hosted music that knew no boundaries. On the contrary, music has always been a link between us and it is therefore our common interest to promote it.
The link between the past and the future is symbolically combined in this 8th edition of the LVMF with its theme of young talent. It is a huge opportunity for the past to speak through young talented artists and for new generations to draw inspiration from it.
We greatly appreciate the fact that this year’s programme uses the premises of Mikulov Castle to hold a series of masterclasses led by violin virtuoso Václav Hudeček. The joint concert with Barocco sempre giovane will surely be an unforgettable experience for everyone.
I wish the whole festival all the best and the visitors a profound artistic and social experience.
Jitka Sobotková | Mayor of Mikulov
MIKULOV
Dear friends of music and Valtice,
Lednice-Valtice Music Festival is a clear proof that beautiful music suits our historic city, annually enhanced by the careful selection of top composers and performers.
As in previous years, the festival will make several stops in Valtice. In addition to the Baroque jewels as the beautifully restored castle theatre and riding hall, I am delighted that the long-forgotten and gradually restored Katzelsdorf Castle will also take centre stage in the festival programme. There, you can enjoy not only music, but also a guided tour of the place and a breath-taking view of Valtice from the nearby Obelisk winery.
In the programme I was also delighted to hear a lecture about the Valtice native, composer and excellent double bassist Johann Matthias Sperger.
I appreciate the fact that Valtice has stood by the organisers and donors of this top event for years, and I wish all visitors an unforgettable experience.
Aleš Hofman | Mayor of Valtice
Dear friends of LVMF,
For the first time as mayor, I can express my support and admiration for the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival, its director and the entire organizing team as a mayor of Lednice.
As Jiří Partyka wrote, “in order to discover something new and wonderful, we must have the opportunity to do so.” The eighth LVMF edition definitely brings us this opportunity in that manner.
This year is dedicated to home and international talents up to 25 years of age. Therefore, we can expect an explosion of smiles, joy of music, interesting performances and energy. Since the first edition, Mr. Partyka has been introducing us to young artists from all corners of Europe. This is what makes the festival interesting, it has an energy and vitality that is transferred to us, the audience and listeners.
The festival’s programme brings not only new themes for each year, new performers, but also new, unusual and interesting venues for concerts.
I wish the eighth edition great performers, enthusiastic audience and satisfied organisers.
Stanislav Straškrába | Mayor of Lednice
Dear fans of classical music,
The quality of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival has already earned it a permanent place among the important classical music festivals on our music scene, which is proven by this year’s eighth edition. Traditionally, Břeclav participates in its organisation and I am proud of the fact that every year – except this year – is one of the concerts held in our city, the gateway to the Lednice-Valtice area and this year again at the Pohansko Mansion. Personally, it will be an emotional matter that the prologue of this year’s edition will take place on the foundations of Katzelsdorf Castle, which is gradually rising from the ashes like the mythical phoenix bird.
I wish all visitors a profound artistic experience.
Svatopluk Pěček | Mayor of Břeclav
I am very pleased that the South Moravian torso of the Katzelsdorf Castle, which used to be located in Austria, will serve as the new venue of this year’s festival, which is known far beyond the Czech borders alongside the great Liechtenstein castles of the Czech Republic. The opportunity to enjoy the rich offer of the music festival is even closer this year. A varied and top-notch programme will present especially young musical talents in 2023. This festival is a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and beauty of classical music from different countries and styles, as well as the beauty of the Lednice-Valtice area.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Jiří Partyka for his dedication with which he made this feast for our ears and eyes possible.
Doris Kellner | Mayor of Bernhardsthal-Katzelsdorf
BERNHARDSTHAL-KATZELSDORF
Dear friends of beautiful music,
an extraordinary, inspiring environment always has an amplifying effect on the artistic experience of both performers and listeners. Therefore, Lednice-Valtice Music Festival has managed to rise to the rank of one of the most important music events in our country in just seven years. Apart from the charm of South Moravia, the fresh and imaginative dramaturgy and highly professional organizing activities have played a crucial role since the festival’s establishment.
This year, the eighth edition is dedicated to young artists, which as a long-time teacher I appreciate very much and consider it a great dramaturgical achievement. I believe that the confrontation of young talents with already renowned, well-known artists will be extremely attractive for the audience and will prove that we do not have to worry about the future of classical music in our country or in the world.
I keep my fingers crossed for all the performers of this year’s festival, I wish the listeners the most beautiful music experiences and the organisers the joy of another successful year!
