The Pond Chateau becomes a haven for a plethora of musical genres performed by pianist Rachel Breen. There will be works of classical music by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Samuel Barber, as well as jazz-inspired pieces by George Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim’s musicals and selections from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Petrushka.

Rachel Breen (piano)

American pianist Rachel Breen has been described as “truly stunning” (Gramophone UK) and her playing is characterised by “beautiful piano sound and original detail”. She began playing as a self-taught musician and joined Sharon Mann at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music at the age of ten. Subsequently, she studied at Yale University and Juilliard School under Boris Slutsky and Julian Martin and was also a student of late Lars Vogt at the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover.

Rachel Breen has had an extensive competition career, during which she has won major prizes at the Premi Iturbi, Hans von Bülow International Competition, Bösendorfer International Competition, Honens International Piano Competition, Beethoven International Competition in Vienna, Georges Cziffra International Competition and others. She was selected as a National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist in the USA from 2021–2023 and was awarded Kurt Alten Award at her university in Germany.

In recent concert seasons, she has appeared as a guest artist at Piano aux Jacobins, Chautauqua Institute, Sarasota Music Festival, Southeastern Piano Festival, San Francisco International Piano Festival, Festival Liszt en Provence, Beethovenfest in Bonn, Merkin Hall at IKIF and Fazioli Hall Concert Series. Furthermore, she appeared on the 2021 podcast 30 Bach, discussing and interpreting the Goldberg Variations.
