Reduta Theatre Brno

Reduta Brno

Reduta Theatre Brno is one of the oldest theatre houses in Central Europe as its history dates back to the 14th century. On the building site, there were originally burgher houses, which were bought by the Lords of Liechtenstein around 1432. In 1500, they built a Renaissance noble house here, which was part of their Brno estate. After 100 years, in 1600, the city of Brno bought the house and converted it into a city tavern, which was used for accommodation and meals for important guests of the city. In the 18th century, the building underwent a Baroque reconstruction and in 1736 it became a theatre where important artists including the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed. After fires in the 18th century, the building was restored in the classical style. The building has been renovated several times, most recently in 2005 when it was modernised and became part of the National Theatre Brno. Today, Reduta hosts not only theatre performances, but also concerts and cultural events, combining historical atmosphere with modern cultural trends.
